Today, Saturday, the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee revealed the date for enacting the oil and gas law.
Committee member Dhurgham al-Maliki told (Baghdad Today) that "the oil and gas law is one of the important laws, and it preserves the rights of Iraq in general, whether in the Kurdistan region or the central and southern governorates."
He added, "We will work in the House of Representatives, with the start of the new legislative term, to legislate the oil and gas law, as it will finally decide the mechanism of export and import."
And al-Maliki said, "The federal governments and the Kurdistan region are waiting for the end of the legislative term of the House of Representatives in order to work on sending the oil and gas law after agreeing on all its paragraphs for the purpose of legislating it during the next few period."
It is noteworthy that, despite the economic importance of the Iraqi oil and gas law, which has been awaiting legislation in Parliament since 2005, which stipulates that the responsibility for managing the oil fields in the country must be entrusted to a national oil company, which is supervised by Baghdad, but the dispute over the issue of managing the oil fields The oil-producing Kurdistan region of Iraq prevented it from being voted on for many years, as the law was passed many times during previous parliamentary sessions and was not included in parliamentary laws and legislation.
Earlier, the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, agreed with the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, to resolve differences and outstanding issues, including the files of the financial budget for the year 2023 and the oil and gas law, but the law is still a matter of controversy after talking about preparation. The stalled oil and gas law in the Iraqi parliament since its first session, in 2005, is one of the most prominent points on which a preliminary agreement was reached between the governments of Baghdad and the Kurdistan region.
