Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The leader of the Al-Fatah Alliance, Jabbar Odeh, revealed on Thursday three conditions for supporting the Sunni forces’ candidate for the presidency of the House of Representatives.
Odeh said in an interview, “The presidency of Parliament belongs to the Sunni component, and the position has become vacant after the Federal Court’s decision at the end of last week to terminate the membership of Muhammad al-Halbousi.”
He added, “Al-Fatah deals with the mechanisms of electing the next Speaker of the House of Representatives with great flexibility, but it has three important conditions to support any candidate, the most prominent of which is that he be a consensual figure who enjoys the support of the rest of the forces to move forward without any problems.”
He pointed out that “the Sunni forces currently have five candidates, and we hope that a consensus will be reached among them in reducing the list and agreeing on a consensual candidate to be presented at the nearest session. Otherwise, the names will be put forward, and the will of the members will ultimately decide the situation.”
The Federal Court decided at the end of last week to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, against the backdrop of the case of former MP Laith al-Dulaimi.
