The Presidency of the Republic issues a clarification regarding the arrest of an officer affiliated with the Presidential Brigade

Shafaq News / The Presidency of the Iraqi Republic denied, on Wednesday, the affiliation of a person who runs human trafficking operations who was arrested by its protection forces, confirming that the accused forged an identity claiming to be an officer in the Presidential Brigade.
The military advisor to the President of the Republic said, in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “News websites and some social media platforms circulated news about the arrest of an officer, claiming that he belongs to the Second Presidential Brigade charged with protecting the Presidency of the Republic.”
He stated, "We absolutely deny what was reported regarding the affiliation of the so-called (Muhammad Mustafa) to the two presidential brigades, and we confirm that there is no officer bearing this name in the two brigades."
He added, "The invitee had false identities. He had previously been referred to the competent authorities and legal measures had been taken against him. The published video dates back to a previous period and is not new."
The military advisor explained, "While we are surprised that this person's name has been attached to one of the two brigades of the Presidency of the Republic, we stress the necessity of verifying the authenticity of the news from its reliable sources before publishing, and adhering to professional standards and ensuring credibility in reporting the news."
Yesterday, Tuesday, a security official informed Shafaq News Agency, “A security force raided, at dawn today (yesterday, Tuesday), the (Reem Al-Bawadi) Hotel on Al-Saadoun Street in central Baghdad, and arrested a person named (Muhammad Baghlan), who is believed to be the owner of the hotel.”
The source stated that “the arrest was carried out against the backdrop of information indicating that the above-mentioned person is practicing human trafficking and smuggling of minors,” noting that “it has not been confirmed whether the detainee is actually an officer with the rank of colonel affiliated with the Presidency of the Republic Brigade or not.”
He confirmed that "a military bag with the rank of colonel was seized from his possession, sums of money, and a pistol. During the arrest process, the detainee tried to swallow the military bag, but he was unable to do so."
Social media sites and some local media outlets circulated news stating, “The arrest of an officer with the rank of colonel in the Presidency Protection Brigade who owns a hotel on Al-Saadoun Street in the center of the capital, Baghdad, and runs prostitution and human trafficking operations within it.”
