{Politics: Al-Furat News} The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, confirmed during the United Nations Climate Summit (COP28) in the Emirates that the Tigris and Euphrates are today threatened with decline and drought, calling on the Gulf states to strive together as a single negotiating group to demonstrate the difficulty of the climate future.
Rashid said during his speech at the conference, “Today the Tigris and Euphrates are threatened with decline and drought due to many impacts, including climate change,” noting that “Iraq is a country with low emissions of greenhouse gases, but it is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change.”
He pointed out that "the extreme weather conditions in Iraq, including record temperatures and lack of rainfall, have caused the expansion of drought and desertification and the shrinkage of agricultural lands," noting that Iraq "submitted its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document to be the ambitious supreme policy to increase resilience to climate change." .
Rashid stressed that "the Iraqi government has taken rapid measures to implement clean and renewable energy projects," calling on "the Gulf countries to strive together as a single negotiating group to demonstrate the difficulty of our climate future."
Rashid renewed Iraq's condemnation of "the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and its citizens," calling on "the international community to stand up to this aggression."
