The spokesman for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan confirmed today, Wednesday (April 3, 2024), that his party supports holding Kurdistan parliament elections on the scheduled date, warning against entering the region into a "dark tunnel."
Saadi Ahmed Berah said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "The Union supports holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections on the scheduled date, on the tenth of next June," noting that "this is the demand of the masses of the people of Kurdistan."
Berah added, “All problems, providing more services to citizens, stabilizing the political system in the Kurdistan region, and restoring confidence to citizens can only be achieved by holding elections,” warning that “if the elections are not held, we will continue to be in a constitutional vacuum, and the future of the Kurdistan region will be in a dark tunnel.” ".
He stressed that "postponing the elections in all circumstances is a bad thing," adding that "it is not permissible to link the elections to some wrong calculations, and we believe that these elections will be good."
On Tuesday (April 2, 2024), member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Hassan Ali, rejected any attempts to postpone the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections.
Alli said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the attempt of a certain party to postpone the elections is unacceptable, as the process was postponed on more than one occasion, and this matter harmed the process.”
He added, "The National Union was in favor of the participation of all political blocs in the elections, including the Democratic Party, but every party has its own opinion and is free to do so, but delaying the elections harms the process."
He pointed out the necessity of "providing the appropriate environment for holding elections amid political circumstances, and we reject the policy of treason that some are trying to distort the image in front of public opinion."
