How should I prepare to take my dog on a long car trip? I'm going on a road trip to visit family soon and I'd like to bring him along. — Megan W.
Great question! It's very important to keep your pet happy during car rides. We checked in with veterinary technician Sharon Gardner and this is her advice:

    • Make sure you have your pet secure in a crate or seatbelt harness so he is safe in the case of an accident. Be sure he has room to stand up and move around as well.

    • Never leave your dog alone in a parked car. On a hot day the temperature in a car can rise quickly and your dog can get heatstroke.

    • Organize a travel kit that includes food, treats, bowls, your dog's favorite toy and first aid supplies. You may also need proof of your dog's rabies vaccination depending on where you're traveling.

    • Make sure your dog is wearing identification tags at all times, you don't want your dog to get lost when you're on vacation.
