Oatmeal with raisins is a classic combination, but adding fresh fruit to the morning bowl is even better. For a delicious alternative, try strawberries or blackberries, chopped peaches or nectarines, or a combination of fruits.

    Ingredients:

    • 4 cups milk
    • 1/4 tsp. salt
    • 2 cups rolled oats
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • 2 cups blueberries

    Directions:

In a heavy saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the milk and salt and bring to a gentle boil, about 3 minutes. Slowly stir in the oats. Reduce the heat to medium and cook, uncovered, at a gentle boil, stirring frequently, until the oatmeal is soft and the milk is absorbed, about 5 minutes. Adjust the heat as needed to keep the oatmeal boiling gently.

Remove from the heat, cover and let stand for 3 minutes. Stir in the cream until just blended.

Using a large spoon, gently stir the blueberries into the hot oatmeal. Divide among individual bowls and serve immediately. Serves 4.
