If this weren't such a sad commentary on the state of American politics, it would be funny. Members of the British Parliament debated Monday whether to ban Donald Trump from entering the United Kingdom but didn't come to a consensus for two reasons: 1) they had too much respect for free speech and 2) they feared the worst—that it just might help the maniac get elected. Rebecca Shabad reports:

"I think it actually gives Donald Trump publicity," said conservative MP Edward Leigh, who opposes the ban. "Why feed this machine?"

Hey, don’t cut off your nose to spite your face, right? British lawmakers debated the petition prompted by Trump’s support for a Muslim ban because it received 575,000 signatures—far exceeding the 100,000 threshold that requires the House of Commons to consider a measure. Parliament, however, does not have the power to ban Trump. Still, that didn't keep Labour party MP Jack Dromey from voicing his strong support for petition.

"ISIS needs Donald Trump and Donald Trump needs ISIS," Dromey said. "ISIS needs to be able to say, 'Muslims you are under attack.' Donald Trump needs to say on the other hand, 'You are under attack by Muslims.'"
"I don't think Donald Trump should be allowed within 1,000 miles of our shores," he added.

How great is it that the Republican Party might nominate someone that foreign lawmakers are considering banning from their shores because he's a menace to the world? Frankly, it's hard to know whether to laugh or cry.
