Jeb Bush Grilled Relentlessly: Why Recommend Rubio for VP if He ‘Didn’t Have the Experience’?

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush was grilled on Fox News Friday, asked repeatedly by host Bret Baier why he pushed the Florida senator for vice president in 2012 if he didn’t have the experience to hold the nation’s highest office.

Over the course of the 2016 race, Bush has argued Rubio lacks the credentials to be commander-in-chief. In recent days, with the New Hampshire primary looming, he has doubled down on that criticism.

Fox News host Bret Baier challenged it during a sit-down interview aboard his campaign bus.

“Experience enough that you recommended him for vice president when Mitt Romney was looking,” Baier told the former Florida governor.

“Except he doesn’t have the experience to make a tough decision,” Bush fired back, dodging the question.

“But why recommend him for vice president, if he didn’t have the experience back then?” the Fox News host presses.

“Because he would have earned it,” Bush replied. “Now he’s running for the presidency. Does he have the experience?”

Baier wasn’t satisfied with the answer.

“You said that Senator Rubio doesn’t have experience, but you—,” he said before Bush interjected.

“You tell me Bret, what is the experience?” Bush asked.
“I’m not here to defend his experience, but you recommended him for VP,” Baier said.

“I’m running for president of the United States and my record of experience—,” Bush began to answer.

This time Baier interjected, “I know, but why recommend him for vice president? If the president goes down, then he become president.”

“I’m running for president of the United States right now. I’m comparing myself to Marco Rubio,” Bush said, concluding the segment while again failing to answer the question.
