Fox News apologized for announcing Donald Trump the winner of Tuesday’s Republican primary in New Hampshire hours before polls closed
Fox News accidentally declared Donald Trump the winner in New Hampshire on Tuesday, hours before polls closed.
Conservative commentator Charles Cooke noticed the error and immediately asked via Twitter,”Fox calls the NH primary, for some reason. Do they know something we don’t?”
The results gave Trump 28 percent support and 14 delegates. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio came in second place with 15 percent of the vote and 3 delegates.
“During routine testing in preparation for the New Hampshire primary a malfunction occurred which briefly showed errant data on our website,” Fox News Chief Digital Officer Jeff Misenti said in a statement, Politico reported. “This error has been rectified. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.”
Fox’s error did echo the overall outcome many polls showed going into Tuesday’s election.
A CNN poll released Monday showed Trump capturing 31 percent with Rubio coming in a distant second with 15 percent.
A WHDH-7 Boston/UMass poll released Monday had Trump collecting 34 percent of the vote compared to Rubio’s 13 percent.
