Republican senator is veteran of Iraq WarPublished: 2 hours ago
U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa
WASHINGTON – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump lit some fireworks of his own on Independence Day with a tweet that sparked rampant speculation about his possible choice for running mate.
On Monday morning he tweeted, “I look forward to meeting @joniernst today in New Jersey. She has done a great job as Senator of Iowa!”
Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, is in her first term and is an Iraq war veteran.
If Trump selects her, he may have found someone as savvy with the media as himself.
During her run for the senate in 2014, Ernst instantly made a national name for herself in the primaries with, arguably, one of the most memorable political TV ads of all time when she declared, “I grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm, so when I get to Washington, I’ll know how to cut pork.”
That line was immediately followed by a shot of a pig squealing.
