Erbil: Authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan are investigating the circumstances in which a young Kurdish Peshmerga died 10 days after he was wounded in clashes with Islamic State (IS) militants on June 24. Relatives of the 21-year-old Chia Ahmed say hospital officials in Erbil have treated the young combatant with “carelessness” after he lied in the hospital unconscious for more than 10 days, suggesting that his life could have been saved. Government officials said on Wednesday that an investigation is underway to determine whether hospital officials could be charged for negligence, which could lead to removal of liable medical staff from the hospital. “We take this case seriously and have asked a representative from the district attorney to be at the committee that investigates young Chia Ahmed’s unfortunate death,” said Health Minister Rekawt Rashid, vowing that “grave consequences” will follow if negligence was the cause of Ahmed’s death. |
Massoud Barzani leads joint meeting of Peshmerga, Iraqi and Coalition forces in Makhmour

Makmour: Masoud Barzani led a joint meeting of representatives from the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi army and U.S.-led Coalition in a visit to the Makhmour front on Thursday. The Kurdistan Region Presidency (KRP) released a statement saying the meeting included interim minister of Peshmerga Affairs and Kurdish commanders as well as officials from the Coalition, Nineveh Operations Command, Iraqi army and Hashid al-Watani. Barzani’s visit came on the second day of the Eid al-Fitr holiday that marks the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Barzani said his visit to Makhmour was to send a message to the world that Peshmerga, Coalition forces and the Iraqi army are fighting a “shared enemy which is the foe of all humanity.”
