Erbil: US Special Presidential Envoy to the Global Coalition Fighting Islamic State (IS) arrived in Iraqi Kurdistan capital of Erbil Saturday morning to discuss the on-going war against IS, with the Mosul operation on focus. “I am in Erbil today,” Brett McGurk tweeted on his page, adding that his visit is to discuss the ways to liberate the Iraqi northern city of Mosul in Ninewa province. He said he would discuss the issue with officials in the Kurdish region. Before his visit to Erbil, McGurk arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday and held separate meetings with officials in the Iraqi capital. |

Baghdad: The Iraqi government has announced it will set up a customs gate on the southern border of the Kurdistan Region to monitor the flow of goods from Kurdish-controlled territories to the rest of the country. The new gate will be open in the township of Uzaim, south of Kirkuk, one in a series of border gates planned between Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq, according to sources in Sulaimani’s Chamber of Commerce. Baghdad says the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has not recognized the country’s customs law that was passed in the Iraqi parliament last year. Iraqi officials have in the past complained about lack of coordination between the Iraqi ministry of trade and border gates controlled by Kurdish authorities in the north and northeast of the country. “The customs gate in Uzaim is in response to Erbil’s apparent refusal to comply with the so-called “United Customs Law,” which means that authorities in Baghdad would be in control of all border crossing trade,” said Rudaw correspondent Shadia Rasoul.

Makhmour: An official from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Makhmour, a city in northern Iraq, stated that the Kurdish village of Atba has been liberated from the control of the Islamic State (IS). According to AIN, Rashad Galali told a press conference that Iraqi forces liberated the Kurdish village in Qayyareh airbase in southern Mosul.
Galali added that the forces will continue their operation to liberate other villages near the base.

Belgium to provide 13.5 million Euros aid for refugees, IDPs in Kurdistan
The Belgian government has announced it is allocating 13.5 million euros of life-saving aid for the victims of the war in Iraq, including Syrian refugees.  “UNHCR, the United Nations refugee organization, will receive a contribution of 2 million euros to improve the reception of Syrian refugees in various camps in Iraqi Kurdistan (amongst others the camps of Kawergosk, Qushtapa, Basirma and Darashakran in the Erbil governorate and Arbat camp in Sulaimani governorate),” the Belgian government said in a statement Friday.  The fund will benefit the refugees and the Internally displaced people (IDPs) in various ways, including preparation for the season and providing accommodation, schools and clean water.
