Poll: Trump Now Leading Clinton in Florida, Catching Her in Critical Electoral College Tally

The gap between Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton in Electoral College projections continues to shrink, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation poll.
The poll, released Saturday, shows that the races in key battleground states such as Florida and Ohio continue to tighten, less than two months before the November general election. However, Clinton still holds a slight lead over Trump overall, according to the poll.

If the race were held today, the poll found that Clinton would have a 60 percent chance of winning the Electoral College by 18 votes and becoming president. That is down from 83 percent just last week.
To secure the presidency, a candidate must secure 270 votes in the Electoral College.
The poll also found that Trump is now leading Clinton in the key swing-state of Florida by four percentage points, 50 percent to 46 percent.
If Trump were to win Florida, it would be a huge victory for the GOP, given that President Barack Obama won the state in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. The state is also worth a healthy 29 votes in 2016, which could be enough to help either candidate top the other.
The wire service’s analysis is based on a weekly tracking poll of more than 15,000 Americans.
