WASHINGTON – The United States is sending 600 more soldiers to Iraq to help liberate the city of Mosul, which is being held by the Islamic State, the Pentagon said Wednesday.
The troops will provide logistical support to Iraqi soldiers, but they will not take part in the fighting in Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, Defense Department spokesman Peter Cook said.
The soldiers will be deployed to Iraq over the next few weeks, Cook said.
