[size=13]Kurdish diplomat appointed as Iraqi ambassador in China[/size]
Baghdad: The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday, appointed a Kurdish diplomat as its ambassador to China. According to a ministerial decision signed by Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari, eight ambassadors have been replaced with new figures, including envoys in the US, France, Russia, Germany, Egypt, China, Norway and Kenya. Among the new figures is the Kurdish diplomat, Ahmed Tahseen Barwari, who is appointed to represent Iraq in Beijing. Barwari is replacing Abdulkarim Hashim Mustafa, who has been serving in the position since 2010.
[size=13]Two Peshmerga fighters wounded in Islamic State attack near Kirkuk[/size]
Kirkuk: Islamic State (IS) militants attacked Peshmerga forces south of Kirkuk city late Wednesday, wounding two Kurdish fighters. The Jihadi militants launched katyusha rockets and mortar shells towards the Peshmerga frontline in Ashtana village in Daquq district. Two Kurdish fighters were wounded in the attack, one of whom is listed in critical condition. IS continued its barrage on Kurdish forces who managed to repel the attack before the insurgents retreated towards the village of Yarghuna. Jaff added that the number of the militants killed and wounded during the fight was not immediately clear. |

Washington: U.S. Vice President Joe Biden spoke on Wednesday with Massoud Barzani. According to a White House statement said that Biden thanked Barzani for the cooperation with Iraqi Prime Minister Abadi and the Iraqi government to defeat Islamic State IS and ensure lasting stability in Iraq. The leaders underscored the urgency of sustaining momentum for the liberation of Mosul and other IS-held territories. Both leaders also stressed the importance of ensuring that all military operations in Iraq respect Iraq’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the ongoing strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq. |
[size=13]Directorate rescued over 1,000 Yazidi Kurds from Islamic State captivity, official says[/size]
Sulaimani: Khairi Buzani, an official from the Directorate of Yazidi Abductees Affairs, announced on Wednesday, efforts his office has made have led to the rescue of 1,071 Yazidi women and girls from Islamic State (IS) captivity. Buzani told NRT that more than 2,000 Yazidi women and girls have been freed from IS captivity, of whom 1,071 were rescued by the Directorate of Yazidi Abductees Affairs. “We have attempted to receive assistance from the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and Arab countries to rescue Yazidi girls and women who remain under IS captivity, but these attempts have failed,” Buzani said. Buzani added the directorate has called on the Kurdistan Parliament Speaker to help them financially or through tribal means but they have not received any support so far.

Baghdad: Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that the problems between Baghdad and Erbil will not be solved in one or two meetings. He said at a news conference today that we can solve the problems between the two governments within a unified Iraq. 
[size=13]Czech Rep. to provide more military instructors, medical personnel to Iraq[/size]
Prague: The government of the Czech Republic will provide Iraq with medical personnel and additional military instructors as part of a plan approved by the government against the Islamic State (IS). The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka, said on Wednesday troops will train and provide medical treatment to Iraqi soldiers as part of an international effort to help Iraq in the fight against IS. The consent of the Czech Parliament, which has not yet been obtained, is reportedly needed for the country’s troops to be deployed to Iraq. A surgical field team of up to 17 people to treat injured Iraqi and coalition soldiers is also expected to be transferred to a U.S. Navy base located some 70 kilometers (44 miles ) south of Mosul, according to the Czech Ministry of Defense.
