Halabcha/ Iraq TradeLink: It was reported that the Iranian authorities cut off again the flow of Sirwan
It was the second time that the flow of this river was cut off during one year.
The cut off took place before 20 days , as reported here.
Iran is building four dams along this river as well as building a canal to change the the route of the river to prevent it heading to the Iraqi borders.
Iranian Consul in Sulaimaniya stated that "what is done is inside our territories, so it is an internal affair".
Up till now, the Iraqi government did not respond on this question, amid Kurdish statements that it called the Iraqi central government to have a stand since June, 2016, but no reply was received from the Iranian side.
On the other hand, 174 million dollars were allocated for a drinking-water project along the river, but the current cut off of the river will put this project to a stand still in the Iraqi Kurdish region, as officially reported.
Sirwan River provides 75% of the water to Derbandikhan Dam, so its is expected that this cut off will affect the water level in this dam and its adjacent areas.
