A few days before ISIS captured Mosul in June 2014, this Kurdish family were there to treat their ill father at a hospital. But ISIS came and they were trapped for 28 months.
The family of six, father, mother and four daughters all went there. Five returned after the father died. They brought back with them his death certificate.
“My husband was suffering a stroke unable to speak for five years. He passed away last year and we buried him in Gogjali." the woman told Rudaw.
They tried several times to flee, but to no avail. They stayed in the house of a son who had been working as a car dealer for many years in Mosul.
After a while, connection with their relatives in Erbil was completely severed. As soon they returned to Peshmerga territories, one of their sons was waiting to receive them.
