ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Three Kurdish ISIS suspects – one with British citizenship -- were captured by Kurdish security forces in the town of Darbandikhan, southern Sulaimani, a security official said.
“The three persons were Kurds living in Darbandikhan. One of them carries British citizenship," said the official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity. "After he returned to Darbandikhan, he joined ISIS for a period of time."
The source went on to say that, “as the person was trying to return from ISIS areas, he was arrested late Tuesday. Following his detention, two more were captured," who were working with him.
The detainees have been transferred to Sulaimani city for questioning.
As they fight the Iraqi army in Mosul, ISIS militants have recently upped their activities in the Kurdistan Region. Earlier this month, a group of suspected terrorists in Halabja were killed or wounded after starting a gunfight with Peshmerga soldiers.
In late August, Kurdish security forces shot dead four other gunmen identified as ISIS militants in the Azhdagh Mountain of southern Sulaimani province.
