Mexico could have recourse to the WTO to face the decisions Trump
Economy - pages MiscellaneousThe Mexican Association of Automobile Manufacturers announced that Mexico could have recourse to the WTO if Donald Trump has decided to impose tariffs on Mexican exports to the United States. Said Assembly President Eduardo Solis said auto exports from Mexico to the United States increased by almost 10% in December. He explained that if the United States wants to impose duties on auto exports from Mexico to the United States first had to withdraw from the free-trade agreement in North America (NAFTA).
He added that even if Trump administration pulled out of NAFTA, the United States remains a member of the WTO and bound thereby giving in to their bases, which "prevents them from imposing taxes of more than 2.5%" on cars and light "about 25% on pickup trucks." He stressed that if the United States imposed taxes in excess of the ceilings, the Mexico could then object to it in front of the World Trade Organization. According to the Assembly of Mexico it made in 2016 more than 3.4 million cars and light increase of 2% from the volume of production in 2015.
Mexico exported more than 2.7 million of these cars, including 77% of the United States imported 8.9% and Canada.
