    Twilight News / oil prices continued their descent below $ 56 a barrel on Wednesday after a report showed a big increase in US crude inventories, indicating an oversupply, despite a record level of commitment to OPEC's agreement to cut production.

    The American Petroleum Institute said on Tuesday that US inventories recorded an increase beyond expectations stood at 9.9 million barrels last week. It is scheduled to issue a formal report from the US Energy Information Administration later in the day.

    The decline in global London Brent crude 34 cents to $ 55.63 a barrel by 0949 GMT, which is half the price in mid-2014 when the global supply glut began falling prices.

    US crude fell 39 cents to $ 52.81 a barrel.

    Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and the process of the (OPEC) and some independent producers including Russia to cut production by about 1.8 million barrels per day in the first half of 2017 in order to support prices.

    Despite the strong start to implement the reduction in OPEC agreement curbed US inventories and the recovery of oil production in the United States rising prices.

    The International Energy Agency estimates and data compiled by OPEC that the organization's commitment to agreed production cuts hit a record level of over 90 percent.
