Love Your Neighbor Empty Love Your Neighbor

    Deuteronomy 22:1-4

If you see your fellow Israelite’s ox or sheep straying, do not ignore it but be sure to take it back to its owner. 2 If they do not live near you or if you do not know who owns it, take it home with you and keep it until they come looking for it. Then give it back. 3 Do the same if you find their donkey or cloak or anything else they have lost. Do not ignore it.
4 If you see your fellow Israelite’s donkey or ox fallen on the road, do not ignore it. Help the owner get it to its feet.
This scripture is pretty basic on the surface level. It is part of the command from Leviticus 19:18 that tells us to love your neighbor as yourself. ‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord." That is a commonly quoted scripture and I believe in my heart that most of us do our best to stick to that. However, what drew me to write about this scripture was Verse 2. “And if he does not live near you and YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO HE IS, you shall bring it home to your house, and it shall stay with you until your brother seeks it.” Wait God wants us to love those that we don’t even know as we love ourselves? He even goes so far to call someone we don’t know our BROTHER!! Now, how many of us love like that?! Surely he isn’t talking about the people in that church across town, or the jerk who cut you off and is now sitting with a flat tire, or that family down the street that is always making so much noise, right? He absolutely is, every person on this earth was made in God’s image and made for a purpose and deserves love from us. We are not the judge of those people, we are called to love them and point them to Jesus and allow him to work in their lives. So, as you go throughout your day let’s look for ways to love people, not ways to put them down or judge them!! A little love can go a long way to starting a conversation about Jesus, and then you get to watch him work. What an amazing gift it is to watch Jesus work in someone’s life!!

Just the words I needed to hear this morning, after some of my thoughts about the drivers I saw coming to work last night, and some of the words I used to describe them. LORD I beg for your forgiveness.
