Britain after America bans computers on airplanes to passengers in six countries

LONDON, March 22 (Reuters) - Britain has joined the United States in banning laptops and tablets on 14 airlines flying to Britain from five Arab countries and Turkey, a British government spokesman said.
Earlier on Tuesday, Washington announced a similar denial, citing the risk of "terrorist" attacks in a circumstance characterized by its policy of tightening the immigration file.
Prime Minister Teresa May chaired several meetings in which she decided to "introduce new measures for air security on all direct flights to the UK from the following countries: Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Jordan and Lebanon," according to a statement by the speaker.
"Under these new procedures, passengers who board aircraft bound for the United Kingdom will not be allowed to carry in the aircraft any laptop, tablet or mobile phone that is 16 cm long and 9.3 cm wide, , 5 cm ".
The United States has taken the same action against eight countries, all of which are allies or partners of the United States - Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco.
British operations include British Airways, Jetty, Jetcom, Monaco, Tomas Cook, Thomson Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Egypt Air, Royal Jordanian, Saudi Airlines and Tunis Airways.
For his part, the Canadian Transport Minister said that his country is considering the possibility of banning the carrying of electronic devices on the flights coming from Turkey and the Middle East and North Africa, similar to the United States and Britain.
"We are checking the information we have received," Minister Mark Gararno told reporters. We will review them carefully and discuss them adequately with our colleagues. "
He added that "the intelligence community provided us with" information on the risk of carrying electronic devices on board flights coming from the countries of those areas.
The three countries share intelligence, including those related to terrorist threats, periodically as part of the Five Eyes coalition, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Gararno said he would discuss the possible threat to airlines with Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Godall and "when we reach a decision we will announce." Finished
