Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari discussed with his Kuwaiti counterpart Sabah al-Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah on Thursday Iraq's proposal to return Syria to the meetings of the League of Arab States, stressing the importance of continued exchange of visits between the two countries.
"Al-Jaafari met with First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kuwait Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the sidelines of the meeting of the International Coalition Against Terrorist Gangs in Washington DC," a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said.
He added that "the meeting discussed the bilateral relations between Iraq and Kuwait and means of strengthening them to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples, in addition to increasing coordination in combating terrorism and eliminating terrorist gangs."
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of continuing exchanges of visits between officials of the two countries and activating the work of technical committees to implement what was agreed during the meeting of the Joint High Committee in Baghdad during the past months.
The ministry said in its statement that "the two sides discussed the files to be presented during the Arab summit in Jordan next week, and the proposal of Iraq on the return of Syria to take up its seat in the meetings of the League of Arab States."
