"We have decided to settle our differences ourselves and to be patient and we do not have a homeland for sale," parliament speaker Salim al-Jubouri said on Friday.
Al-Jubouri said in a speech during a meeting with a number of officials, elders and dignitaries of the Diwaniyah province that "we have no other Iraq. We have decided to close our door to us, to resolve our differences and to insist on each other and to give in to each other. Outside or inside and for anyone who wants to exercise his command over Iraq tell him we do not have a homeland for sale. "
"We are now on the threshold of a new phase in the history of Iraq, a stage that requires patience, a dream, strong wisdom and will, and a real understanding of the course of events in the region and the projects that seek to drag us into their trenches, problems and intersections."
"Iraq is still strong, but it is the most powerful, despite the monument, fatigue and hardship of the battle it waged against terrorism. It is strong because it is betting on a history that extends for thousands of years," he said. "Diwaniyah is a witness to this history from the time of the Sumerians until today."
He pointed out that "the achievements of the stages and the benefits of the historic political settlement and the confidence-building measures, and we do not want to go back for the future of our children," adding that "wars have torn us for decades and today our chance to build one Iraq and a state institutions."
