Clashes broke out in the West Bank on Friday between Palestinian youths and Israeli troops after marches in solidarity with prisoners who entered their 12th day of an open hunger strike.
According to our correspondent, tens of injuries were caused by suffocation among Palestinians as Israeli soldiers fired tear gas canisters at them in the vicinity of Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah.
The correspondent added that other injuries occurred during confrontations broke out in the town of Saluda, east of Ramallah, pointing to similar confrontations in areas such as the camp of Alroub and the town of Halhoul north of Hebron.
The clashes spread to Qalandia checkpoint, which separates Ramallah from Jerusalem, as well as villages in western Ramallah, according to our correspondent.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said in a statement that its crew provided initial treatment for 50 people injured during confrontations with the Israeli army in the areas of Ramallah, Jerusalem, Hebron, Qalqiliya and Nablus. Most of the injuries were suffocation.
The "National Committee to follow up the prisoners' strike," called earlier to hold Friday prayers in the tents sit in the West Bank, in solidarity with the prisoners, which has already happened.
She also called for participation after the prayer in marches towards the checkpoints and points of friction with the Israeli army to express their anger towards the Israeli Prison Service's arbitrary measures against the prisoners, such as isolating them in solitary cells.
The Committee said that these events seek to create a situation of popular pressure in order to push the Israelis to respond to their demands.
On Thursday, the West Bank witnessed a comprehensive strike in solidarity with the striking prisoners.
Some 1,500 Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli prisons began on 17 April an open hunger strike to meet several demands, including the cessation of the policy of administrative detention and solitary confinement.
