Two car bombs killed Sheikh Abrik al-Luwati, dean of the largest tribe in eastern Libya, and four others, on Friday afternoon in Benghazi.
The sources said that the explosions occurred immediately after the departure of the brigadier of the tribe of Awaqir, from Friday prayers in a mosque located in the municipality of Salouk, south of Benghazi.
Another six people were wounded in the attack, which no one immediately claimed responsibility for.
Al-Luwati is considered one of the biggest supporters of the Libyan national army by urging his tribe to support the army's war on terrorism.
