    BAGHDAD - The Journal News

    Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed on Tuesday that Article 36 of the Constitution allowed for provincial councils to work until the holding of the next elections without any constitutional vacuum.

    A member of the parliamentary legal committee, Mohsen al-Sadoun, told «News Journal», that "there is a proposal submitted by the Council of Ministers to include the Electoral Commission to extend the work of provincial councils until the next parliamentary elections.

    He added that "At the moment there are no effective measures that can allow for elections next September, especially since the electoral commission is prepared and the electoral law did not vote in the parliament," and noted that "Article 36 of the Constitution allows provincial councils to continue their work until the holding of elections.

    The National Alliance MP Ali al-Badri, announced earlier in the end of the legal term for provincial councils early May, and the current work now is "null and void", with the signatures of 200 deputies collect signature and delivered to the Presidency of the Council of Representatives to stop the work of the provincial councils
