Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday approved the Turkish parliament's decision to implement the agreement on the deployment of Turkish troops on the territory of Qatar.
"Erdogan has ratified two parliamentary resolutions, one of which allows the deployment of Turkish armed forces in Qatari territory, and the second stipulates the implementation of cooperation between Ankara and Doha on the education and training of the security forces between the two countries," the statement said.
The Turkish parliament ratified last Wednesday a draft law authorizing the deployment of Turkish armed forces in Qatari territory according to a previous protocol between the two countries. The parliament also passed a draft law on cooperation between Turkey and Qatar on the education and training of forces between the two countries.
The Gulf region is currently experiencing considerable internal tension over the severing of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt, all diplomatic relations with Qatar and the cessation of sea, land and air traffic with them.
The list was later joined by the government of Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, the interim Libyan government headed by Abdallah al-Thani, as well as the Maldives, Mauritius, Mauritania and the Comoros.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qataris and residents have given 14 days to leave the Gulf countries.
In light of this crisis, Kuwait and Oman stood neutral and played the role of mediator to ease tension between the parties. Jordan and Djibouti announced that they would reduce their diplomatic representation with Doha.
For its part, Qatar denied the accusations made by the Gulf countries to support terrorism, and said it faced a campaign of fabrications and lies

Erdogan aligns with Qatar and endorses the sending of Turkish troops

    Editorial date:: 2017/6/9

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has approved legislation to send Turkish troops to Qatar, an expression of support for Doha, which faces isolation from other Arab states after accusing it of supporting terrorism.
The Turkish parliament passed the bill on Wednesday, and Erdogan's office announced its ratification late on Thursday and was published in the official gazette on Friday, completing the legislative process.
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar on Monday and accused them of supporting terrorists and several countries followed suit, charges Qatar has dismissed as baseless.
Qatar vowed on Thursday to overcome isolation and said it was not prepared to give up its foreign policy independence to resolve the region's biggest diplomatic crisis in years.
Erdogan also ratified another agreement between Turkey and Qatar on military training cooperation late on Thursday, drafted the two drafts before the conflict began and Turkey also pledged to provide food and water supplies to Qatar.
Erdogan said isolating Qatar would not solve any problems.
He added that Ankara will do all in its power to help end the regional crisis.
Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said on Thursday that Turkish troops coming to Qatar were "in the interest of the security of the whole region."
"I do not expect any military escalation in the current crisis, and the deployment of the Qatari army has not seen any change and no forces have been moved," the Qatari foreign minister said.
He added that "his country does not expect any change in the mission of the US base in Qatar."
Turkey has good relations with Qatar and several other Gulf states. Both Turkey and Qatar have supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and supported armed opposition groups fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The bill did not specify how many troops Turkey would send or when they would be sent.
