Raqqa (SyriaNews.media) Syria’s state television announced in the following video that the supreme leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in air strikes on the city of Raqqa, on Saturday, according to a statement published by the so-called Islamic State’s Wilayat al-Raqqa.
Al-Baghdadi has been reported dead before and so these unconfirmed reports by Syria’s state television network should be treated with suspicion. The images of Al-Baghdadi’s corpse which appear in the Syrian state TV news report have been associated with false claims of his demise in the past: ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi allegedly killed by US airstrikes
Screen grab from Syrian State TV news broadcast claiming ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi killed. The image of al-Baghdadi was previous debunked as a hoax.

The British Newspaper ‘Daily Mirror’ revealed that Syrian media reported, on Saturday, that airstrikes on the City of Raqqa, north of Syria, killed al-Baghdadi, while official military sources did not confirm the news.
Several media outlets also reported that the city of Raqqa witnessed intense air strikes, while the Islamic State-owned ‘Amaq’ published photos showing the damage caused by the air strikes.

Meanwhile, some Twitter activists quoted the news about al-Baghdadi death from the Syrian state television.
It is noteworthy that so far no official sources other than the Syria’s state TV have confirmed the news of al-Baghdadi’s death, while the United State has put a $20 million bounty on al-Baghdadi.
