Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said US complicity in marginalizing Islamist groups of the past has once again opened the door to the recruitment of Wahhabi extremists.
Zarif, who is visiting Norway to participate in the Oslo International Forum, made tweets on his own Twitter account of US efforts to marginalize Muslims and cooperate with Saudi Arabia to expand extremism.
"The first trap in the 1980's: intimidation from Iran has deceived the West to yield to the spread of Wahhabism in the world and its result in al-Qaeda,
"The new trap: America's complicity in marginalizing Islamic groups of the past has opened the door wide to recruiting Wahhabi extremists," he said.
"Recent developments have made our old and permanent proposal for the formation of a comprehensive regional dialogue complex in the Gulf necessary," he concluded.
