    URGENT Trump cancels all Obama's decisions on normalization with Cuba

    Date of release:: 2017/6/16

    WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of all his predecessor Barack Obama's government decisions on US relations with Cuba.
    "The Cuban regime and its persecution of dissidents," Trump said in a speech on US-Cuban relations at a conference in Miami, Florida, called for "elections, the release of all political prisoners and the return of fugitives from US justice."
    "We will implement the ban on Cuban tourism and prevent any funding going to support the Cuban army," he said.
    The US president signed a directive canceling the "one-sided" agreement that the previous administration signed with Cuba, a move Washington officials considered "a partial change from the path of his predecessor, Barack Obama."
    Trump addressed a letter of confrontation with Castro's regime in Cuba.
    Trump's "rigor" is aimed at implementing licensed exemptions that allow travel between the United States and Cuba while banning trade with military-owned companies and intelligence services in Cuba.
    US President George W. Bush also sent Foreign Secretary Rex Tillerson to form a team to expand the Internet access in Cuba and repeat US opposition to any UN efforts to lift the embargo on Cuba until more is done to improve human rights on the Caribbean island.
    Trump said he would "expose the crimes of the Castro regime" and accused the former US administration of "concluding a deal with a government that spreads violence and instability in the region and got nothing in return."
    However, diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba will remain in place and will not impose further restrictions on goods that US citizens can leave Cuba such as cigars.
    The administration of former US President Barack Obama announced in 2014 that the United States will restore diplomatic relations with Cuba and that it will reopen its embassy in Havana, which was closed in 1961 following the Cuban revolution.
    In 2016, President Obama paid a visit to Cuba, the first US president to be ruled by a communist party for over half a century.
