The High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Monday confirmed that the number of displaced persons and refugees as a result of conflicts in the world amounted to 65.66 million people last year, which constitutes a record.

He said the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, during the presentation of the annual report of the Agency that "the total number of 65.6 million people have increased slightly compared with the 65.3 million people" in 2015.

This means that one out of every 113 people displaced in the world.

The bulk of this number is displaced within their own countries and who have registered a record 40.3 million people by the end of 2016 compared with 40.8 million in the previous year. The focus of the largest number of displaced people in Syria, Iraq and Colombia.

The number of refugees who reached 22.5 million people, and half of them children, it is the highest in history.

And resulted in continuing in Syria since the 2011 conflict, the largest number of refugees reached 5.5 million people with about 825 000 people registered in 2016, according to UNHCR.

The United Nations sounded the alarm about the rapid deterioration of the situation in southern Sudan after the "catastrophic failure of peace efforts in July." Grandi said that "South Sudan is witnessing the fastest deterioration of displacement crisis in the world." This comes after South Sudan gained independence in 2011, broke out in the civil conflict in December 2014 inflicted tens of thousands dead and forced more than 3.7 million person to leave their homes.

The report said the number of refugees from southern Sudan increased by 64 percent in the last six months of the year 2016 to reach 1.4 million people. Since January, it was recorded half million additional refugees.
