His administration refused to celebrate the occasion .. Trump congratulates Muslims on Eid al-Fitr

WASHINGTON, June 25 (Xinhua) - US President Donald Trump has sent his "warm greetings" to Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, when his administration refused to celebrate the holiday, breaking an annual tradition that most administrations have taken over the last two decades.
"On behalf of the American people, Melania, I send our warm greetings to the Muslims who celebrate Eid al-Fitr," Trump said in a statement. "During this holiday, we remember the importance of compassion, kindness and charity."
"With Muslims around the world, the United States reaffirms its commitment to respect these values," he said.
In 1996, former US President Bill Clinton began a tradition of hosting a reception on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
However, current US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson rejected a request by the Department of Religious and International Affairs in his ministry to organize a ceremony on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
