Bahraini newspaper Al Wasat after laying off its staff to stop issuance authorities

    BAGHDAD (Reuters) -

The newspaper "center" Bahrain Independent announced layoffs of its employees, after three weeks to stop the issuance and circulation of the authorities accused of "spreading and broadcast what interests the band" in the community, and damage to Bahrain's foreign relations.

The newspaper informed its staff management decision in an email addressed Saturday on the eve of Eid al-Fitr day on Sunday.

He wrote Chairman of the center-house publishing company and distribution just Almaskati in the letter: "We regret to inform you that the Board of Directors decided to terminate work with staff contracts, due to stop activity center newspaper, according to the Ministry of Public Information's decision issued on June 4, 2017, and the resulting about the losses of the company. "

Maskati also stressed that "the Board of Directors is committed to the laws of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the termination of the contract, the company will pay the entitlements of staff, according to a schedule with each employee," noting that the newspaper was employing 160 people, including 30 foreigners.

Thus it is to stop issuing the paper actually after the launch of 15 years, in a country witnessing frequent unrest in recent years.

On June 4 and the Ministry of Public Information it announced that it had decided to suspend the issuance and circulation of the newspaper "until further notice," according to the news agency quoted the official Bahrain, without specifying whether the ban includes the website also told the newspaper.

The decision came after accusing the newspaper of "violation of the law and the frequency of the publication and dissemination raises band society and affects the Kingdom of Bahrain's relations with other countries, it published an article Sunday in a number that includes the abuse of one of the brotherly Arab countries."

The institute said that the source did not reveal his identity in the center newspaper, he said the paper had been suspended because of "an opinion" about the angry popular protests in the city of Al Hoceima in northern Morocco.

The decision criticized the human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch that the Bahraini government demanded in a statement on June 18 to withdraw the decision, "because the daily center is one of the rare independent media in the Gulf region."

The authorities stopped the electronic version of the newspaper for several days in January, after being accused of "spreading discord in society and harming national unity." The paper also suspended two days in August / August 2015 on similar charges.

Bahrain is experiencing sporadic unrest since the suppression of the protest movement in February 2011 in the midst of the events of the "Arab Spring", led by the Shiite majority demanding their leaders to establish a constitutional monarchy in Bahrain, which is governed by a Sunni family.

The Bahraini authorities have stepped up the trial and the prosecution of its opponents since the suppression of the protest movement. Despite the decline in violence in recent years, the judiciary continues to issue harsh penalties against opponents.
