Baghdadi’s “mail man” killed in security ambush in Diyala

Baqubah (IraqiNews.com) An Islamic State militant who was in charge of handling mails belonging to the group’s supreme leader was killed by security forces in Diyala province, local officials said.
Alsumaria News quoted officials at the security committee at Diyala province council saying that IS supreme leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s “mail man”, an Iraqi national, was killed in an ambush set for him in Beldrouz region (30 Km east of Baqubah).
The Islamic State has lost dozens of its senior leaders since Iraqi government forces, backed by a U.S.-led coalition and paramilitary forces, launched offensives in October targeting the group’s havens across Iraq, most notably the city of Mosul.
Iraqi government troops are currently fighting the last few remaining militants in Mosul, and the government plans to target other IS holdouts in Kirkuk, Anbar, Diyala and Salahuddin afterwards.
IS has escalated attacks against civilians and security forces on the borders between Diyala and Salahuddin over the past months, with many arguing that the assaults aim to make up for losses in Mosul.
Violence and armed conflicts left more than 700 Iraqis dead and wounded during the month of June, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq which excludes security members deaths.
