The League of Arab States held Israel responsible for the actions it took in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, closing it to worshipers, confiscating its keys, tampering with its contents and preventing Friday prayers.
The Council of the League, in a statement issued at the emergency meeting held at the level of permanent representatives at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, on the latest developments in Jerusalem and the Holy Temple, condemned the measures taken by the Israeli authorities in Jerusalem, Collections and historical documents.
The Council, chaired by Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and the Secretary-General for Palestine and the occupied Arab territories, Ambassador Said Abu Ali, considered the recent developments as part of Israel's attempt to change the historical situation in the Temple Mount and the installation of electronic gates. Nearly half a century and specifically since the burning of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in 1969.
The Council warned that Israel's attempt to impose a new reality would lead to a very dangerous escalation and dire consequences in igniting a religious war in the region.
The Council stressed its rejection of any change in the status quo in the occupied city of Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the need to stop and cancel all Israeli measures and restore the status quo, including the removal of electronic gates and respect for freedom of worship.
