Governor Steve Bullock on Wednesday issued an Executive Order declaring the following 28 counties and five Indian Reservations are in a drought disaster:
Blaine, Big Horn, Carter, Chouteau, Custer, Daniels, Dawson, Fallon, Fergus, Garfield, Golden Valley, Hill, Judith Basin, McCone, Musselshell, Petroleum, Phillips, Powder River, Prairie, Richland,
Roosevelt, Rosebud, Sheridan, Treasure, Valley, Yellowstone, Wheatland, and Wibaux Counties and the Fort Peck Indian Reservation, Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, Rocky Boy Indian Reservation, Crow Indian Reservation, and Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.
"Extreme drought conditions are threatening the hard work of farmers and ranchers in Eastern Montana communities," said Bullock in a press release.
"My administration remains committed to helping these folks get back on their feet and ensuring that all Montanans stay safe during these hot summer months."
On June 23, Bullock issued Executive Order 5-2017 declaring 19 Montana counties and two Indian Reservations in a drought emergency.
Since then, sustained high temperatures and desiccating winds have caused severe worsening conditions and additional counties to suffer from extreme drought.
As of July 10, small nonfarm businesses in 16 Montana counties are eligible to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration after Governor Bullock sent a letter to Secretary Sonny Perdue requesting a Secretarial Drought Disaster Designation.
Affected counties and reservations are also eligible for the Livestock Forage Program.
Wednesday's drought disaster declaration continues the temporary suspension of "hours of service" regulations and engages maximum employee assistance and cooperation to secure further economic assistance for the affected counties and Indian Reservations.

    • The met office claimed Wednesday mornings storm produced almost 150,000 lightning strikes in a two hour period which is by far unprecedented and smashes the old world record by a country mile.
    • The old record was a mere ten thousand lightning flashes which lit up Hong Kong's night sky over the weekend (Jul 9-10-16) during a thunderstorm that lasted for twelve hours.

The Met Office claims the storm above Cornwall on Wednesday morning produced almost 150,000 lightning strikes in a two hour period which is by far unprecedented and smashes the old world record by a country mile.
The old record was a mere ten thousand lightning flashes which lit up Hong Kong's night sky over the weekend (Jul 9-10-16) during a thunderstorm that lasted for twelve hours.
According to the South China Morning Post, the Hong Kong Observatory said the number of strikes was "very high" for a summer storm.
It reportedly surpassed the July 2005 24-hour record of 9966 strikes.
However, the Post reported that because the strikes spanned over two days, they might not go down in the record books full story here.

Venezuela's Catatumbo River, located in northwestern Venezuela in the state of Zulia, has set the Guinness Book of World Records for highest number of lightning per square kilometer per year.
The region, which was named the "Lightning Capital of the World," receives a whopping 1.2 million lightning bolts every year, which breaks down to 3,600 lightning flashes per hour!

Incredible amounts of rain, a months total in just two hours caused a 4ft wall of water which ripped up roads and damaged 50 homes after freak thunderstorms strike along with thousands of lightning strikes hit the sleepy Cornwall village in the UK.

Could the lightning strikes have been influenced by pressure caused by solar wind, well, it would seem unlikely Spaceweather.com reported on the 18th of July: SUBSIDING STORMS: The big geomagnetic storm of July 16-17 is finished.
Earth is exiting the wake of the instigating CME and, as a result, geomagnetic activity should remain below G1-storm levels on July 18th.
However, a huge Coronal Hole on the Sun is turning toward Earth as we speak.

    The Big Wobble Ch_strip

Spaceweather.com goes on : NORTHERN CORONAL HOLE: A hole in the sun's atmosphere has opened up and it is spewing solar wind into space.
NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory is monitoring the structure, which sprawls across nearly half of the sun's northern hemisphere:
However the solar wind being ejected from the giant hole is expected to reach Earth around the 21st.

    Facts about thunderstorms

    • A bolt of lightning lasts on average for about one 10,000th of a second but could light a 100 Watt light bulb for three months
    • Lightning travels through the air at around 270,000 mph - that's around 75 miles every second
    • Lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun reaching temperatures of around 30,000 °C
    • Thunderstorms can trigger asthma
    • The island of Java is the most thundery place on earth with 220 days of thunderstorms every year.

Miami is having to deal with billions of extra mosquitoes which have blown in from the Everglades by recent storms.
And as this is Miami's mosquito season an extra billions makes conditions right now almost unbearable.
Broward Mosquito Control says billions of salt marsh mosquitoes were blown in from the Everglades by recent storms. “It’s a tremendous number of mosquito right now.
People are claiming it's the most mosquitoes they have ever seen.
Broward Mosquito Control claim the have received more than a 1,000 calls per day from people who require spraying near their homes.
At the same time, both counties are working on Zika prevention. Zika 101: Prevent Spread By Protecting Yourself Broward Mosquito Control is applying for a patent for its newest method. They’ve created a nozzle that makes the spray droplets so small that it spreads further and uses half as much product. “We were able to redesign it to get the droplet size so small that it shoots up in the air and it gets into people’s back yards,” explained Ton. “It’s lite enough, it’s small enough, that the wind will take care of the rest.” Click here for more information on the Zika virus or here for more Zika-related stories, claims CBS Miami.
