Trump Assistant: Iran is worse than before the nuclear deal was concluded

    Thursday 20 July

    BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iran's
behavior after the signing of the nuclear deal is "worse" than before, US Assistant Secretary of State for National Security and Counterterrorism Affairs Thomas Bosert said Thursday . "We have no reason to believe that a comprehensive joint action plan (coordinated by Tehran and the international community) has changed Iran's ambitions ," the White House representative said at a forum on security in Aspen, Colorado .

White House threatens Iran with new sanctions and considers its "hostile activity"
Washington is imposing new economic sanctions on Tehran

The US official reiterated the current US administration's position that "the nuclear deal with Iran is very bad."

He said Tehran was still holding hostages, threatening its neighbors in the region and supporting terrorism, saying that "his country is considering the possibility of imposing a wide range of sanctions against Iran."

The man did not respond to a question on whether these sanctions would include the Iranian oil sector.

Iran, along with the Group of Six (the United States, Russia, Germany, France, China and Britain) on July 14, 2015, reached a landmark agreement on settling differences over Iran's nuclear program. In the face of the implementation of the joint comprehensive plan of action, the economic and financial sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council as well as the United States and the European Union against Iran were canceled. The agreement entered into force on 16 January 2016.

But the United States later included 18 people and an Iranian organization on the sanctions list for Iran's missile program, prompting Tehran to threaten counter-sanctions against US officials and companies.

Although the White House asserts that Tehran abides by the comprehensive plan of action, it has decided to impose new sanctions against it because of the missile program and hostile activity in the region.
