The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights won the confidence of Parliament after the guarantee of quotas

On Thursday, the House of Representatives succeeded in granting confidence to the members of the Commission on Human Rights, nearly eight months after the dissolution of the former Commission. On November 28, 2016, the House of Representatives voted to dissolve the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and to refer its members to retirement after the end of its legislative term.
The media department said in a statement received by Al-Mada that "the Council gave confidence to the members of the Board of Commissioners of the High Commission for Human Rights, in a session chaired by Salim al-Jubouri and attended by 184 deputies." The Board of Directors of the Commission included the following members: Hameen Rashid Zaidan, Basma Mahmoud Mustafa, Thamer Yassin Abdullah, Ali Akram Zine El Abidine, Bright Naji Abboud, Mahmud Fahd, Ali Abdel Karim Mezer, Fadel Abdul Zahra Abbas, Aqeel Jassim Ali, Zidan Behind Obeid, Amer Polus Zia, and Faten Abdel Wahed Abbas. It also included members of the reserves are: Barwin Mohammed Amin, Anas Akram Mohammed and Faisal Abdullah Badr.
After the vote, Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jubouri thanked the Commission on Human Rights and the Committee of Experts for their efforts over the course of the year to submit the names of the candidates to the Commission on Human Rights.
He criticized the civil activists and human rights organizations through the selection of members of the Commission, stressing that the composition was subject to "quotas" for the presence of candidates on the political parties, such as Mashreq Naji member of the political body of the Sadrist movement, and Fadel al-Gharawi, who is affiliated to the Supreme Council, as well as candidates in a response and a year.
