TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's Revolutionary Guard detained a Saudi fishing boat and detained its crew at a time of heightened tension between the two regional powers, the official IRNA news agency reported on Saturday.
The crew, five Indians, were arrested on Friday after they entered Iranian territorial waters in the Gulf, the agency quoted Ardeshir Yarahmadi, a spokesman for the fisheries department in Bushehr province, as saying.
It was the second time in a month that Iran had held a Saudi fishing boat and detained its crew.
Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia are at their worst in years, accusing each other of sabotaging the region's security and supporting each other in the wars of Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries have cut ties with Qatar, saying one of the main reasons for this is Doha's support for Iran.
Iran has accused Saudi Arabia of being behind two deadly attacks in Tehran on June 7 that the Islamic state organization claimed responsibility for.
Saudi Arabia has denied links to the attacks, which killed 18 people and wounded more than 40.
Iranian media reported last month that the Saudi Coast Guard opened fire on Iranian fishing vessels in the Gulf and killed a fisherman and arrested three others.
Iran has demanded the release of the three, saying they have legal identity papers and lost their way.
The Saudi Information Ministry said Saudi Arabia intercepted the ship in its territorial waters on June 16 and arrested three members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in the incident.
Saudi Arabia said the ship was carrying explosives and the three arrested were planning to carry out a "terrorist act" in Saudi waters. Iran has denied the allegations.
