The Russian ambassador to Washington ends his tenure amid US doubts

    23/07/2017

Russia's ambassador to Washington, Sergey Kislyak, has ended his tenure, and Kislyak is one of the key figures in US investigations into Moscow's intervention in the 2016 US presidential election.
The Russian Embassy in Washington said on its Twitter account that Denis V. Gonchar, deputy head of the mission, would act as chargé d'affaires until the new ambassador to replace Kislyak. Anatolyov, deputy Russian foreign minister, is expected to replace Kislyak, who has held the position since 2008. .

Antonov's nomination for the Kremlin-approved job comes at a time when attention is focused on relations between Moscow and Washington following US allegations of Russia's intervention in last year's US election.

Kislyak's name appeared in relation to several Trump assistants, while a special investigator and congressional committees were investigating Russia's intervention and possible relationships with the Trump campaign.
