Tensions between Germany and Russia over the Crimean "turbine" scandal

    23/07/2017

Bild am Sonntag wrote on Sunday that Germany had warned Russia that the breach of sanctions, including the transfer of four gas turbine turbines Siemens had handed over to Russia, was straining political relations between the two countries.

The newspaper quoted a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry as saying: The German government drew attention to Moscow on several occasions about the imminent breach of the current sanctions and the illegal behavior of Russian companies.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman: Russian President Vladimir Putin, told Ziegmar Gabriel, who was the minister of economy in Germany at the time of delivery that these turbines are not for the Crimea. Gabriel is currently Foreign Minister. The spokesman told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper: "The government has reminded Moscow of these assurances again and pointed out that any such major breach of sanctions will bring new German-Russian relations.

Siemens is trying to distance itself from the scandal, stopped delivery of power equipment to state-controlled companies and reviews supply agreements.
