Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi intelligence services discovered a gymnasium belonging to the Islamic State in western Mosul, a statement by the service said on Sunday.

The Military Intelligence Directorate said a fitness club containing a large number of equipment and a sleeping room was discovered at a social care facility in Mosul.

Earlier this month, the Iraqi government declared victory over the Islamic State in Mosul, ending the group’s three-year occupation of Iraq’s second largest city.

More than 25.000 militants and more than 1400 civilians were killed in the military campaign launched in October and backed by a U.S.-led coalition.

Iraqi government forces have regularly run into facilities and documents owned by the Islamic State while combing areas retaken from the extremist group. The discoveries included prisons, underground tunnels, communication centers and documents giving insight into the way the group ran its affairs in the city since 2014, when it took over the city to proclaim an Islamic “caliphate” in Iraq and Syria.
