World Health Organization announces death toll for cholera epidemic

    25/07/2017

The death toll from the cholera epidemic in Yemen rose to 1,864 as a result of the Saudi aggression that devastated the country's health sector and the blockade imposed more than two years ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) said.
"Since the outbreak of the epidemic on April 27 to 23 July, 390,000 and 865 suspected cases of cholera have been reported," the UN agency said in a report obtained by Anatolia. "One thousand and 864 deaths were recorded in 21 Yemeni governorates during the same period."
"The epidemic has affected about 2 percent of the total population," the report said. "The number of new suspected cases of cholera is steadily declining."
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been carrying out more than two years of aggression against the Yemeni people, causing thousands of casualties and massive destruction in most service sectors in the country.
