Agreement on a ceasefire in Libya

France hopes to reach an agreement on a conditional ceasefire and the organization of elections in Libya, said a draft statement issued by the French presidency on Tuesday.

According to the draft statement, published by Reuters, Al-Sarraj and Hafer agreed to "cease fire and avoid recourse to armed force on all matters outside the scope of counter-terrorism in accordance with the Libyan political agreement, international treaties, the protection of Libyan territory and the sovereignty of the country and the integration of combatants wishing to join the regular forces and disarm Disarmament and demobilization of the rest of the combatants and their reintegration into civilian life ".

The document also said that the winner of the Siraj and Khalifa Haftar is expected to commit to holding elections as soon as possible from July 25 under the auspices of the United Nations.

A source from the Elysee Palace told Reuters that the draft statement was the result of negotiations between the envoys of the rival Libyan parties and French officials, but its content was still subject to some changes.
