Erdogan: Israel draws strength from dispersion of Muslims

Arabic and international Wednesday, 26 July 2017

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that the Israeli government derives its strength from dispersing Muslims and is working to change the Islamic identity in Jerusalem.

This came in a speech at the opening session of the World Islamic Conference on Higher Education, held at the presidential complex in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

Erdogan called on Israel to abide by agreements on Jerusalem and respect for human rights. "The door of al-Aqsa can not be closed to the Muslims of the world," he said.

He pointed out that the removal of Israel to the electronic checkpoints offensive to Muslims in the vicinity of the maximum, "a step is true but not enough."

"We can not afford to close the doors in the face of Muslims coming to perform Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque."

"Those who insult our country with criticism whenever they have the opportunity to stick to the silence applied when it comes to Palestine and Jerusalem."

Erdogan stressed that defending the dignity and honor of Al-Aqsa Mosque is the task of the entire Muslim world, not just Palestine.

"If you want to live in peace in this world, instead of threatening others, you have to avoid policies that would interfere with you and the region in a firefight," he told the Israeli government.

Since July 16, Jerusalem has witnessed confrontations between Israeli and Palestinian forces protesting Israel's installation of electronic check gates at the entrances to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On Tuesday, Israeli police removed e-gates, relying instead on smart cameras, something the Palestinians also dismiss as an arbitrary act of occupation.
