[ltr]US President Donald Trump, retired Gen. John Kelly, has chosen to replace Raines Pripas as chief of staff at the White House in a major change in his presidential team.[/ltr]
[ltr]Trump announced the change in Twitter on Friday, a day after new White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci accused Pripas of leaking information to reporters.[/ltr]
[ltr]Kelly, a 67-year-old retired admiral who currently serves as secretary of homeland security, will be chief of staff at the White House on Monday. A senior White House official said Trump came with Kelly to "increase discipline in the White House," according to Reuters.[/ltr]
[ltr]Pripas is the latest in a long line of officials who have left their positions in the White House.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The president has the right to press the reset button, I think it's time to press the button," he said in a television interview from the White House. "It's time to do something different and I think it's right."[/ltr]
[ltr]But one of Trump's confidants said the president lost confidence in Pripas and was particularly suspicious of his skills after failing to pass key legislative provisions in Congress.[/ltr]
[ltr]A senior White House official said Trump had told Pripas two weeks ago that he would come elsewhere, and that the move had nothing to do with Scaramocchi, whose appointment a week ago prompted Shawn Spicer, a Pribas ally, to resign abruptly as White House spokesman.[/ltr]
