TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran has lodged a complaint with the joint committee to oversee the nuclear deal, saying the sanctions imposed by the United States in July violate the agreement with major world powers, Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani was quoted by Tasnim news agency as saying on Tuesday.
The nuclear deal signed in 2015 between Iran and the six world powers, including the United States, has lifted most sanctions against Tehran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear program.
But the Treasury Department's Foreign Assets Control Office imposed sanctions on six Iranian companies in late July for its role in developing a ballistic missile program after Iran tested a missile to carry satellites into orbit.
On the same day, the Senate passed almost unanimously new sanctions on Iran, Russia and North Korea. The sanctions in this bill are aimed at Iran's missile programs as well as human rights abuses.
"The committee supervising Iran's nuclear agreement assessed the new US sanctions and found them to be inconsistent with parts of the nuclear deal," Larijani was quoted as saying.
"Iran has filed a complaint to the Committee for the violation of the US nuclear agreement."
Iranian media said on Monday the government had taken a decision on measures to respond to US sanctions and that President Hassan Rowhani would soon announce the measures to the relevant ministries.
US President Donald Trump issued a veiled threat to Iran last week, warning the Islamic Republic to comply with the terms of the nuclear deal or face "very serious problems."
The Trump administration has verified that Iran is complying with the nuclear deal, even though Trump described the deal with the administration of his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama as "the worst agreement ever."
