    US special forces are helping Emiratis and local forces in their operations against al Qaeda in Yemen, the Pentagon has announced.
    Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said the operations, mainly in Shabwa province, where AQAP is active, are aimed at destroying al Qaeda's ability to launch terrorist attacks.
    "Our assistance in the area is a continuation of what we have been doing since January 2017," Davis said, adding that this includes very few US troops on the ground and that they are there especially to help flow information.
    Davis said the United States had launched more than 80 air strikes in Yemen since Feb. 28.
    Davies made the remarks after the UAE announced the launch of a large-scale operation. The UAE embassy in Washington explained that the operation was supported by a force combining the UAE and the United States.
    The United States is a branch of AQAP, the most dangerous al Qaeda network.
